As we remember the end of WWII 70 years ago, it is only fitting that we remember those who fought, those who died and those who fight for our liberties today.  Although it is impossible not to think every day of the great sacrifices our current soldiers and heroes of days past have made, take a minute to reflect and thank a Veteran today. We are here because of what they did. [...]

On this date in 1945, the biggest decision ever made by a U.S. President was made by Harry Truman to end the brutality of WWII. It was a necessary movement to prevent further loss of life throughout the world and finally bring peace back to civilization. Seems hard to believe that such destruction could be the beginning of the end, but it was. And it also set the stage for [...]

One hundred fifty years ago today, the President who led us through the darkest period in American history was taken down by an assassin’s bullet.  This should have been the start of reconstructing the country torn apart by two separate beliefs. Instead it set back the healing by many years. It would be impossible to determine the actual effects of this tragedy, but in no way can it be considered [...]

This is a shout out to all the veterans who have sacrificed so much to give us the liberties we enjoy today. Thank you! I want to especially mention a man named Jim who I recently met at a lecture on the subject of the D-Day invasion. He was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge and just one of the nicest people I have ever met. He endured brutal conditions [...]

Louis Zamperini passed away this week. In the event you don’t know who he is, you can look up the word “hero’ in the dictionary and his picture will appear. The book ”Unbroken” was based on this man’s life. Zamperini survived 47 days on a raft in the Pacific Ocean after his plane crashed during WWII. Not only did he survive the crash, the horrific time in shark-infested waters and the loss of his [...]

It’s a shame there is only one day a year that most of us think about the sacrifices our veterans made for the liberties we all enjoy today. Go to a parade, shake the hand of the soldier who most likely almost gave his or her life, and just say thank you. And think about those that did give the ultimate sacrifice. They all deserve it.

149 years ago today, the surrender of Lee’s troops at Appomattox Courthouse finally brought a close to the bloodiest period of time in our Nation’s history and enabled us to begin rebuilding from the devastation of a divided nation. However, only 5 days later on April 14th, we were rocked again by the assassination of Lincoln.  Not sure the country ever fully recovered from this, but it should never be forgotten.

November 22, 2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the most horrific event to happen to a nation, as President #35 was taken down by a lone, communist-sympathizing drifter for no  reason other than he wanted to be famous. To this day the vast majority of Americans refuse to believe that someone so insignificant could change the course of history. But yet it happened. For all the similarities between the Lincoln and [...]

Coming up on July 1-3 is the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. The Confederates attempt to bring the war to the North was repelled. At a cost of approximately 50,000 casualties. The bloodiest battle of the war. No question a turning point in the ultimate victory for the Union. We owe alot to those who fought and suffered through that terrible event.  Enough said. I went to [...]

It was 223 years ago today (April 17th, 1790) that the great Ben Franklin passed away. From diplomat, to scientist, to inventor, this guy had an impact when he was alive and still does today. From the freedoms we enjoy as citizens of this country to the reading glasses we wear, Mr. Franklin contributions should never be underestimated.
