149 years ago today, the surrender of Lee’s troops at Appomattox Courthouse finally brought a close to the bloodiest period of time in our Nation’s history and enabled us to begin rebuilding from the devastation of a divided nation. However, only 5 days later on April 14th, we were rocked again by the assassination of Lincoln.  Not sure the country ever fully recovered from this, but it should never be forgotten. grantlee
