Louis Zamperini passed away this week. In the event you don’t know who he is, you can look up the word “hero’ in the dictionary and his picture will appear. The book ”Unbroken” was based on this man’s life. Zamperini survived 47 days on a raft in the Pacific Ocean after his plane crashed during WWII. Not only did he survive the crash, the horrific time in shark-infested waters and the loss of his crew, but he was then captured and tortured in a Japanese POW camp for 2 years. This too, he survived. Incredible. Just incredible. He is one of the most inspiring men ever to walk the face of this earth. Thank you Mr. Zamperini. You may finally rest in peace. You deserve it.LouisSZamperini_army_pic

Thanks Jim, there isn’t enough recognition for the heroes of this generation. The selfish, cushy, spoiled society of today could never fathom or appreciate these acts of heroism. The men and women of WWII were a different breed. Not taking away from the heroes of all the preceding conflicts all the way back to the rev War. But the WWII generation are among us and unfortunately we are losing them at a record rate each day. More appreciation should be shown to these warriors before it’s too late. I have spent time visiting a Veteran’s Home and it is very sad to see what has become of too many of these “heroes”. Please, everyone take the time to say “thanks” to these wonderful people while they are still around.

Jim – thanks for the tribute to Mr Zamperini. They don’t make him like Louis anymore. Mr Zamperini, thank you for all you sacrificed and did for this country. May you rest in peace.
